CRYPTANTHUS ARE A WONDERFUL FAMILY OF BROMELIADS THAT OFFER REWARDS TO ANY GARDENER. THEY ARE TROPICAL AND DON'T LIKE COLD WEATHER, BUT CAN BE GROWN INSIDE IN GOOD LIGHT AND UNDER PLANT LIGHTS, WHICH I HAVE DONE SUCCESSFULLY FOR YEARS. THEY ARE GROWN FOR THEIR EXTREMELY VERSATILE AND VARIED FOLIAGE RATHER THAN THEIR SMALL, BUT ATTRACTIVE FLOWERS. IN MY EXPERIENCE, THEY LIKE TO BE FED REGULARLY FOR BEST RESULTS AND THEY WANT TO BE MOIST, BUT WELL DRAINED--TRUE FOR ALMOST ALL PLANTS...PERIOD. THEY CAN BE USED OUTSIDE IN POTS, IN THE GROUND, ESPECIALLY ROCK GARDENS AND THEY WILL DO WELL IN DISH GARDENS, IF CHOSEN WELL WITH OTHER COMPANION PLANTS. THEY WILL EVEN GROW IN TERRARIUMS PRETTY WELL AND NOT OUTGROW THE SPACE AS MANY OTHER SO CALLED TERRARIUM PLANTS WILL. PICTURED ONE OF MY VERY FAVORITES, C. WARASII, A RARER VARIETY AND A VERY SLOW GROWER, BUT A LOVELY LITTLE PLANT.
