LOVER COME BACK

DORIS DAY AND ROCK HUDSON MADE ONLY 3 FILMS TOGETHER, BUT THE PUBLIC PERCEPTION SEEMS TO BE THAT THEY JOINED AT THE HIP THROUGHOUT ALL OF THE 50S AND 60S. OF THE 3 FILMS, LOVER COME BACK IS MY FAVORITE. IT IS ABOUT AS CLOSE TO A GENUINE SCREWBALL COMEDY AS THERE IS IN ANY TIME REMOVED FROM THE 30S, THE GOLDEN AGE OF THE SCREWBALL COMEDY. LOVER HAS AN AMUSING, INVOLVING STORY AND A WITTY SCRIPT AND DAY AND HUDSON ABETTED BY THE INIMITABLE TONY RANDALL ARE AT THE TOP OF THEIR GAME.THERE IS GOOD WORK HERE BY A STRONG SUPPORTING CAST, ESPECIALLY EDIE ADAMS, WHO RARELY HAD A BETTER OPPORTUNITY IN THE MOVIES THAN HERE.LOVER MOVES AT A GOOD, FAST PACE AND RARELY STALLS. IT IS PURE ESCAPIST ENTERTAINMENT, BUT THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT WHEN IT IS HONESTLY THIS GOOD.
