CONTEMPORARY FILMS AND PAST TREASURES

One can argue that there aren't many movies today worth getting very excited about, but I do think every year has a few good, memorable films, and I will talk about those here, including such goodies as Away From Her with Julie Christie and also a few very enjoyable tv series, which, technically, aren't movies, but are today often far superior to what is coming into the theatres. There are great performances happening in television as well as in theatre films.

But, largely, here, I will probably concentrate on older movies, things I think more people need to discover and enjoy and great under-rated performances or other work connected to a film, which I feel has been under-appreciated.

Today with so much available, it is now much, much easier for anyone of any age to discover movie treasures, which were locked away and unavailable to so many people in earlier times. Often, a film was released once and after the original run was gone--until the dawn of tv. Now, there are so many means of finding and enjoying past work. Actually, we are very fortunate in this respect and many of us don't always take advantage of what is out there. No need to settle for some mindless, hot new release when there can be so much more rewarding stuff to consume our leisure time.

I am going to do som essays on some favorite films of mine as time and my schedule permit. Maybe, this approach will strike sparks with others, who can share what they love about great films.
