ANY FILM IN WHICH EVE ARDEN APPEARS IS GUARANTEED A FEW MOMENTS OF GREAT ENTERTAINMENT. THERE ARE FEW ACTRESSES IN FILM HISTORY WHO WERE MORE LIKELY TO ENLIVEN WHAT WAS SOMETIMES VERY ROUTINE MATERIAL THAN THIS WONDERFUL ACTRESS, WHOSE DRY WIT AND SUPERLATIVE TIMING COULD ZING WITH THE BEST OF THEM. THERE ARE A LOT OF MEDIOCRE FILMS IN ARDEN'S FILMOGRAPHY, BUT NO MEDIOCRE PERFORMANCES. SHE WAS PRETTY MUCH A SECOND STRING ACTRESS TILL HER TV SHOW, "OUR MISS BROOKS", MADE HER A STAR, BUT SHE ALSO DID MANAGE TO APPEAR IN SOME VERY GOOD FILMS ALONG TO WAY TO STARDOM. "STAGE DOOR", "COVER GIRL" AND "MILDRED PIERCE" ARE SOME OF HER BEST. ARDEN WORKED WITH EVERYONE WHO EVER MATTERED IN HOLLYWOOD FROM THE MARX BROTHERS AND LUCILLE BALL TO JAMES STEWART, CARY GRANT AND JOAN CRAWFORD. SHE WAS NOMINATED FOR HER WORK IN "MILDRED PIERCE," BUT LOST AND NEVER DID WIN AN ACADEMY AWARD, A TERRIBLE OVERSIGHT. BUT HER TV WORK GAINED HER AN EMMY. MANY OF HER FILMS ARE AVAILABLE AND A LOT OF THE RADIO SHOWS OF "OUR MISS BROOKS". STRANGLEY, THE TV VERSION OF "OUR MISS BROOKS" STILL IS NOT READILY AVAILABLE ON DVD EXCEPT FOR A FEW ISOLATED, BADLY COPIED PUBLIC DOMAIN DISCS. EVE ARDEN IS AN ACTRESS TO SEARCH OUT AND ENJOY AT EVERY POSSIBLE OPPORTUNITY.
